NC: GOP General Assembly making Gov. McCrory look reasonable

Showcasing the R-controlled NC General Assembly's utter batshittery, (R) Gov. Pat McCrory managed to be the adult in the room today. In an interview on WFAE's show Charlotte Talks with Mike Collins,

McCrory compared the “Religious Freedom Restoration Act,” whose sponsors include two Charlotte lawmakers, to the effort to allow transgender persons to use the bathroom of their choice. Both are not needed, he said.

McCrory also said he opposes a Senate-passed bill to give magistrates the right not to perform same-sex marriages if they say that violates their religious beliefs.

“I don’t think you should have an exemption when you took an oath to uphold … the constitution of North Carolina,” he said. [emphasis mine]

The interview also covered McCrory's opposition to the NC Senate's plan to shift sales tax revenue from urban to rural areas, which he called "class warfare."

McCrory is an environmentally disastrous corporate douche and I have no love for him, but he at least has the sense to know hate is bad for business. From the interview:

... the governor said another Republican bill designed to protect religious freedom “makes no sense.”

“What is the problem they’re trying to solve?” McCrory said during a radio interview. “I haven’t seen it at this point in time.”

This has to suck for the Chamber of Commerce wing of the GOP, bless their hearts. But it raises hope that legalized discrimination won't get past the Governor's desk in at least one red southern state.
